Employee Participation Activities
Initiatives to Encourage Proactive Philanthropic Activities by Each Employee (Japan)
Nissan supports philanthropic activities of employees so that they have an interest in social issues and participate in philanthropic activities proactively. In 1996, Nissan introduced “Nissan Financial Support Program for Volunteer Activities”, in which Nissan financially supports employees for their social contribution activities (e.g. volunteer activities and donations). Moreover, R&D division has started “NICE WAVE activity” to encourage social contribution activities by engineers since 2008.
Partnership with Habitat for Humanity (North America)
Nissan North America (NNA) has been collaborating with the NGO Habitat for Humanity (Habitat) annually since 2005. Habitat, an international aid organization that fosters hope by helping people build or improve their homes, has a vision of “a world where everyone has a decent place to live”. The nonprofit works to construct homes, revitalize neighborhoods and support families’ self-reliance in more than 70 countries across the world.
Since the partnership began, NNA has logged more than 112,000 employee volunteer hours and contributed more than $21 million to help build homes across the U.S. NNA’s support also includes annual vehicle donation to affiliates across the U.S. and NNA‘s employee engagement at Habitat ReStore locations.
In 2023, NNA participated in 11 house build projects in Nissan operational communities and supported the weeklong Carter Work Project in Charlotte, N.C. This program brought together future homeowners and thousands of volunteers – including Nissan employees – to build 27 new homes in Charlotte, N.C. Since the inception of the Nissan Canada Foundation's partnership with Habitat in Canada in 2008, Nissan Canada employees have made an impact through volunteering their time and contributing to over 100 home builds from Halifax to Vancouver. 44 Nissan Canada employees volunteered in 2023. Nissan Canada Foundation’s contribution of donations to Habitat has exceeded 1 million CAD, an important milestone for Nissan Canada, which also includes a yearly vehicle donation that helps Habitat locations build homes in communities on a daily basis.
Employees also participate in a variety of other social contribution activities. In fiscal 2023, cumulative number of employees participating in social contribution activities in global was more than 46,000.
