Intelligent Around View Monitor
This system displays the vehicle's surroundings as seen from above and around the vehicle to improve parking safety and convenience
The system displays various camera views including a bird's-eye view of the vehicle which allows the driver to quickly understand the vehicle and parking space orientation. This aids the driver in smooth garage parking, parallel parking, or other challenging parking situations.
The system also detects moving objects around the vehicle and warns the driver to support safe maneuvers when parking or departing from a parking space.
System operation
Images acquired from four cameras installed on the front, rear, and sides of the vehicle are displayed individually, or combined and displayed as a single image seen from directly above the vehicle (bird’s-eye view). This allows the driver to check the vehicle’s surroundings at a glance.
If the cameras detect a moving object around the vehicle, either when the vehicle is stopped or when it starts moving, the system warns the driver with a display message and warning chime.
System mechanism
The system is composed of four wide-angle cameras installed on the front, rear, and sides of the vehicle, an image processing unit and a center display unit. The image signals from the cameras are collected, and the image processing unit morphs the perspective in real-time to display a bird's-eye view image.
By performing image processing of the image signals from four cameras, the system can identify moving objects around the vehicle in real-time and warn the driver with a warning chime and yellow frame on the screen.
In order to correctly detect moving objects while the vehicle is moving, the system predicts the movement of the background based on vehicle steering angle and speed, and processes the information to identify and track moving objects.
