Nissan Energy Share is changing the energy model of the world

"Nissan Energy" is the general term for solutions that use the electricity storage and discharge functions of batteries installed in Nissan electric vehicles (EVs), and further improves their appeal. One of those solutions is Nissan Energy Share, where EVs act as mobile storage batteries to supply homes and society with electricity. Nissan is aiming for a distributable energy model, and will contribute to the stabilization of the supply and demand of electricity in the world.

Technology that supports "Nissan Energy Share" and its value

By utilizing (sharing) the electricity stored in Nissan EVs in many ways, Nissan is bringing a new value to everyday lifestyles. And that value is created through V2X technology (V2L, V2H, V2B, V2G).

Nissan has conducted Nissan Energy Share activities collaborating with several partners to date. Here we will introduce leading examples.

Participated in V2G demonstration project by US DOD to verify the benefits from the large-scale V2G. (DOD/LAAFB/Various other companies)

2016

As support during the 2016 Kumamoto earthquake, in addition to supplies and personnel support, Nissan lent 100 EVs free of charge.

Participated in charging/discharging demonstration with the goal of adjusting frequency (Enel/two others)

2017

Participated in virtual power plant (VPP) construction demonstration project by Kansai Electric Power and Sumitomo Electric

2018

Nissan announced the “Blue Switch” activities in May 2018, and began signing disaster cooperation agreements with local governments and corporations. Nissan conducts relief activities during large-scale black outs caused by natural disasters, such as supplying electricity from Nissan Leafs.

V2H(G), Smart charging

Participated in demonstration of stabilizing electricity supply and demand balance on Maui, Hawaii, by storing solar power during the day and wind power at night (NEDO, Hitachi)

Electricity charging/discharging demonstration with the goal of levelling electricity consumption. (ENEL/Nissan Europe)

Loaned Nissan Leafs during the Hokkaido Eastern Iburi Earthquake in September 2018, and used them as emergency power sources and transport vehicles instead of gasoline cars. Signed a disaster cooperation agreement with Sapporo City the following year.

V2G

Participated in a demonstration to stabilize the variation (supply and demand balance) in the amount of electricity supply generated by Kyushu Electric Power’s solar power generator.

Participated in a demonstration to reduce electricity costs by lowering peak electricity consumption in buildings (Fermata Energy).

Participated in a demonstration to stabilize the variation (supply and demand balance) in the amount of electricity supply generated by Tohoku Electric Power’s wind power generator.

2019

Utilized Nissan Leafs as moveable storage batteries at evacuation centers and welfare facilities in Chiba prefecture following the large-scale black out caused by the impact of Typhoon Faxai in September 2019.

V2B

Participated in a demonstration to verify the peak shift of electricity consumption and CO2 reduction in a building utilizing EVs, solar power generators and fixed storage batteries from NTT West/NTT Smile Energy.

2020

Steadily increasing the number of disaster cooperation agreements signed with various local governments and corporations.
