What holds Ileana back?

Ileana López – Production Manager, Mexico

What holds Ileana back? - Gender? Culture? Motherhood?
None of these.
Because what truly matters to her is TALENT. PASSION. VISION.

Ileana López

Meet Ileana López – a trailblazer, a mother and the first woman to serve as Seisan Shutan (Production Manager) in the Americas, in charge of a full car model. She's also a wife, a mother of twins, and one of the key leaders behind the launch of the New Nissan Sentra.

"Being a Seisan Shutan for a full car model requires a great deal of effort, commitment, and dedication, but you always seek balance."

Her role in bringing Nissan Sentra to life

Ileana's leadership was central to the launch of New Nissan Sentra. Her role was decisive.

For a year and a half, she worked every day to organize, review, and refine systems and processes—making sure everything landed in the right place, at the right time, with the right level of quality. Her leadership not only marked a key step in her career, but it also marked an important milestone for women across the automotive industry.

She managed 14 Project Leaders, guided cross-functional teams, and during key phases—such as the vehicle prototype development phase at the Global Product Engineering Center (GPEC) in Japan—oversaw more than 90 people under her responsibility.

A team as diverse as the challenges

Her team brings together different ages, experiences and life stages. Very young members with great willingness and responsibility, as well as more experienced personnel who were always motivated to learn something new and improve every day. The group included both men and women, single engineers and others with families—who, just like Ileana, always had the support of their loved ones to accomplish the objectives assigned to each of them.

"My way of working with them is simple: give them the tools and support they need. Sometimes that means information, guidance, and sometimes removing obstacles. What I learned most from them is the power of teamwork. Whenever we aligned and defined actions together, we reached incredible results."

Six months in Japan: A professional and cultural shift

Ileana's journey also took her to Japan, where she spent six months working closely with specialized teams to prepare equipment shipments and installation for the Aguascalientes plant production line, ensuring they were completed on time and in line with the company's global standards.

Beyond the technical side, the cultural experience left an even deeper mark.

"A funny thing happened often while I was in Japan: when interpreters who were ladies introduced me as Seisan Shutan, people were surprised. A woman holding that position wasn't common, and you could feel the admiration."

The experience strengthened her global perspective and her belief in what diverse leadership can bring to manufacturing.

"I'm passionate about working for a company with a global presence and being part of the manufacturing of high-quality products. This is reflected in the many years, Nissan Mexicana has been the number one brand in sales in Mexico," she says proudly.

Balancing leadership with motherhood

Outside the plant, life is just as full. Ileana is a wife and the mother of energetic four-year-old twins. Balancing long workdays, travel, and leadership responsibilities with family life takes strength, resilience, and a lot of love.

"I think that passion fuels my enthusiasm for every model I work on. Being part of designing and building vehicles gives me so much satisfaction."

Nissan Sentra 2026

At the Aguascalientes A2 plant, every start of production is more than a technical milestone. It's the beginning of a story built with talent, discipline, and emotion. The launch of the Nissan Sentra 2026 reflects the evolution of an iconic model and the strength of the plant behind it. With more than 3,000 collaborators, A2 (together with A1) produces a complete vehicle every 40 seconds, powering a model that will reach 17 countries.

This environment of global collaboration and worldclass manufacturing gave even more weight to Ileana’s role. The New Nissan Sentra is more than a refreshed model. It represents the story of a plant that continues to grow, a team that continues to innovate, and a leader who continues to break barriers.
