A promise evolved

The first-generation LEAF set out with the promise to make electric vehicles possible for everyday use.  Fast forward 15 years, the world's first third generation mass-market EV builds on that original promise with a renewed focus: removing barriers for drivers considering the switch to electric.

Around the world, LEAF owners have relied on their cars for daily commutes, winter mornings, heavy rains, and long summer journeys. Their feedback has guided the design and engineering decisions on the all new third-generation LEAF. 

Based on real world use on a global scale

Over the past 15 years, approximately 700,000 LEAF vehicles and an estimated 28 billion kilometers traveled have provided real-world insight for the LEAF development. Combined with extensive global testing, a team of approximately 3,500 engineers located in Japan, Europe, and the U.S. collaborated to inform everything from route planning to ride feel. This truly integrated and global effort refined reliability, durability, safety, and performance for diverse climates, road conditions, and charging environments.   

The result is a carefully crafted EV shaped by how people drive every day around the world, and the experiences that matter most to them.

Behind the scenes, an integrated 3-in-1 electric powertrain and large module battery help keep responses smooth and consistent.

Comfort and reliability, for your everyday peace of mind

To ensure peace of mind for customers, extending the LEAF's driving range and maintaining a comfortable cabin environment, efficient temperature management of both the battery and the vehicle interior is essential.

The development team introduced an integrated thermal management system that centrally controls the vehicle's entire heating and cooling operations.

By managing heat generated within the vehicle more efficiently, this system reduces battery power consumption and enables comfortable long-distance driving.

Production for the LEAF has started in the U.K. and Japan, and the manufacturing sites are bringing it all together with the craftsmanship and quality that is associated with Nissan EVs.
