Connecting society with EVs (V2X)
V2X
Supplying energy in communities and society with EVs toward a brighter future.
V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) is a general term for technology that lets vehicles communicate with the world around them.
NISSAN ENERGY uses V2L, V2H, V2B and V2G technology to use and share the power stored in EVs in various ways.
This brings new value to daily life and society.
V2L (Powering appliances)
The energy in an EV's battery can power home appliances and devices outside the home, on trips, or in an emergency.
That means more ways to enjoy the outdoors—plus backup power for emergencies.
- Based on third generation Nissan LEAF
V2H (Home)
With NISSAN ENERGY, an EV can power a home via V2H (bidirectional charging).
- When not used for driving, the EV can use the energy in its high-capacity battery as an efficient part of balancing a home's overall energy usage
- Charging the EV when energy rates are low, and using the EVs stored energy to power the home when rates are high, can lower overall household costs
- Homes with solar panels can use excess generated energy to charge the EV. That energy can then be used to power the home at a more cost-efficient time or during peak energy consumption times
- Not required when using AC V2H (European specifications)
V2B (Building)
Based on a building's power consumption needs, charging and discharging of EVs can be adjusted by building management. This can improve energy demand balancing and operational costs.
- EVs can be charged from the building when power consumption is low or solar generation levels are high
- EV charging can be limited when building energy consumption is high. Energy from multiple EVs can be shared with a building during peak times to help balance supply and demand
- EV battery status and driving trends can be monitored to ensure that each EV is charged and ready when its driver needs it
V2G (Grid)
V2G can integrate EVs into the energy infrastructure by enabling bidirectional charging between EVs and the grid.
- During energy surplus periods, EVs can be charged automatically from the grid, preventing potential waste from renewable energy sources
- During high demand periods, EVs can automatically supply energy to the grid to help balance
- This service is to start launch in the Europe market. Other market availabilities are currently being planned.
How can NISSAN ENERGY support in an emergency?
EVs can offer essential backup power in an emergency*.
EVs can also provide energy to homes during a power outage or disaster. When used in combination with solar panels and Home Battery Storage, they can help sustain energy demand for around 7 days.
(Under normal usage conditions)
- Feature availability varies by region.
- Reference: Supporting a family of four. Number of days calculated based on using a Nissan ARIYA (60 kWh battery model).
The calculation is based on Japanese data.- Annual electricity consumption for detached houses: See "Statistics on CO2 Emissions from the Household Sector" (Ministry of the Environment), 2024
- CO2 emission factor per kWh: See "Electricity Emission Factors Applied to the Green Energy CO2 Reduction Certification System" (Agency for Natural Resources and Energy), average for all power sources at receiving end, 2024
Lifelong partnership with Nissan through cars and energy
From gas-powered cars to e-POWER and EVs, Nissan drives innovation to enrich people's lives.
We bring the joy of life behind the wheel and value beyond mobility, offering new opportunities for every life stage.

01 Enjoy exploring everything car life
has to offer across a wide area
e-POWER makes driving an enjoyable part of an active daily lifestyle involving driving to many places and making the most of private time.
02 Enrich family life with
home at the heart
As a family grows, a readily accessible second car becomes appealing.
An EV is quick and easy to charge at home, making family outings more fun than ever.

03 Enjoy family outings and
together time at home
Families moving into a house of their own are ready to begin V2H life.
Connecting an EV via home charger supports a smarter relationship with energy.
04 Enjoy retirement comfortably
at home
Even those who no longer drive have memories they wish to preserve.
In the future, the battery from your beloved EV will be able to be removed and used as a storage battery for the family home.
