Nissan accelerating electrification through Formula E racing
Formula E, the world's sole all-electric single-seater FIA World Championship, provides an elite motorsports platform for leading automotive manufacturers to accelerate EV innovation and brings dramatic racing to the heart of some of the world's most iconic cities.
Nissan has a long and successful history in both motorsports and electric mobility. Determined to showcase its cutting-edge, zero-emissions EV technology before a global audience, Nissan made its all-electric racing debut in Season 5 (2018/19) of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. It's the first and only Japanese automaker to enter the series.
Mastering the art of energy management
Nissan tapped its many decades of EV expertise to create its all-electric Formula E race car. Knowledge gained from an estimated 28 billion kilometers driven by LEAF customers played a key role in the design of our racing software.
In turn, the lessons learned on the racetrack are helping shape our next generations of EVs.
For example, one of the secrets to success in Formula E is efficient energy management. The development of ultra-efficient battery management software for our electric race cars has led to better intelligent power solutions for our road going EVs.
