The CLV: a prototype born of bricolage
Maintaining the sophisticated design and functions of the sedan, while incorporating an array of innovations
‘Eat, sleep, play’ : a vehicle that facilitates it all
The CLV is a radical new design for a vehicle that facilitates your needs for comfort in eating, sleeping and play, based on the Nissan Skyline sedan body. This prototype is the embodiment of Another Innovation that will electrify the world, much like the CEFIRO did back in 1988 with the "KUU-NERU-ASOBU" (Eat, Sleep, Play) concept, which proved so popular.
More than 30 surprise innovations await you
The CLV is equipped with over 30 innovative features designed for user convenience and comfort. To make eating more comfortable, there's a bottle holder with a heat retention function and a sliding side table installed in a small gap under the armrest that's reminiscent of flying business class. There's also a removable navigation screen and a steering wheel holder that can attach the navigation screen to it.
Pressing the "all in one button" on the steering wheel activates AI, which anticipates driver needs by proactively offering functions and services. For example, the AI will automatically recline and optimize your seat position while you're eating or taking a nap. Furthermore, the combination of a head-flat spacer that utilizes the rear seat headrest and a seat-flat spacer that fills the gap between the seat back and the seat surface makes it possible to sleep comfortably in the driver's seat. Fold down the rear seats to create a fully flat bed and enjoy watching movies with the moonroof vision built into the ceiling.
Innovations to enhance convenience also include storage for umbrellas in the side sills, grips on the rear seats that can be quickly converted into hangers, wastebins built into the side mirrors and general-purpose hooks for outdoor use on the B-pillars. There is no shortage of innovations to help facilitate your "play." These innovative features designed to enhance your enjoyment and fun provide value in all kinds of everyday situations that exceeds your expectations.
Your AI assistant SORA: not merely installed but living together with you
The CLV includes our AI assistant SORA. Connected to sensors and actuators throughout the car, SORA is an integral part of the CLV.
SORA always understands the car's environment and can communicate with the driver and passengers through smartphones. For example, it knows if there is an umbrella in the car or not. If you've forgotten your umbrella, Sora will remind you. It can also detect whether passengers are eating or napping and suggest an optimal interior environment. It'll even let you know when items like blankets need cleaning.
SORA doesn't merely relay information to ensure optimal preparedness or comfort. It learns your driving habits and preferences and grows together with you. In short, SORA is your buddy and supports all your driving needs.
That's why SORA is not merely installed. Made possible by revolutionary AI, it offers an entirely new relationship between you and your car. SORA lives together with you in an exciting new collaboration, making your car a place where you and AI deepen your mutual understanding and evolve together.
The CLV's development broke the shackles of traditional engineering.
The CLV embodies the future of mobility. Its development process was a radical departure from traditional engineering. While maintaining the functionality and sleek design of a sedan, Nissan engineers began with an exploration process on how to incorporate revolutionary new features. They spent long hours in the car, immersing themselves in deep thought, imagination and ideation.
Sometimes they'd spend the better part of a day imagining possibilities, generating innovative ideas and rigorously testing them. This process gave birth to the numerous groundbreaking innovations built into the car. Connecting them with AI, the CLV is the perfect partner for your modern life.
The CLV also represents the essence of bricolage. Diametrically opposed to engineering, which sets a goal and pursues all avenues in search of the optimal answer, bricolage is about dialogue between disparate elements and diverse methods, materials and tools coming together in a unique combination to create something bigger than the sum of its parts. The process of deep thought, observation and creation has given birth to an entirely new kind of value that is the CLV.
Creation through inspiration
- Closely observing the car's interior and thinking deeply, whenever inspiration struck the engineers would jot their idea down on a post-it note.
- Next, they would make sketches of their ideas.
- Then they would create 3D models out of cardboard or Styrofoam.
