“Skyline GT (S54A-1)” is a special machine that Prince Motors, Ltd. produced to win the 2nd Japan Grand Prix “GT-II Race” on May 3rd, 1964. It was manufactured by extending the wheelbase of Skyline 1500 (S50) by 200mm to mount the 6-cylinder “G7” engine originally for Gloria and was rolled out on May 1st to get entry qualifications. Actual race cars were equipped with “sports options” including Weber triple carburetors, the 5-speed close-ratio transmission, the non-slip differential, etc.
Although the winner was Porsche 904 (Carrera GTS), Skyline GTs ranked 2nd to 6th and impressed their high performance. After the race, “2000GT (S54B-2)” of 125ps was officially rolled out as catalog model in February 1965 to respond to the request from customers.
This car was fully restored by “Nissan Restoration Club” for the 50th anniversary of SuzukaCircuit in 2012. The specifications are the same as those of the race car No.39, driven by Yoshikazu Sunako, that won second place.
