The second generation Datsun Sunny (B110) achieved good results in motor sports with the engine enhanced from 1000cc to 1200cc. 1200GX-5, 2-door coupe, added in August 1972 was heavily used as a base car for races. “5” of GX-5 stands for 5-speed floor-shift MT in which the reduction gear ratio is 1.000 at fifth. With A12 engine tuned up to 130ps and wide tires, it ran races in “TS Race” category of Fuji International Speedway and won championships from 1971 through 1974, in 1977, 1979, 1980 and 1982.
