The first generation Datsun Sunny, rolled out in April 1966, was developed mainly by younger engineers including Zenzo Sonoda, the supervisor. The 1-liter A OHV engine generated 56ps. Its clean and sporty styling, the high performance of 20.6 second for the standing start quarter mile and the maximum speed of 135km/h appealed many users.
The 4-door sedan type was rolled out in April 1967 and the Sports series with 4-speed manual floorshift and the 3-speed automatic transmission type were added.
