Hope”
Nissan supported “Hairdressers for Hope” in areas affected by the disaster. Managed by L’Oreal Japan, the program utilized one base model “Civilian.” The vehicle was donated for use as the Beauty Bus, a mobile salon that was equipped with facilities to shampoo and style hair, including self-contained electrical and hot water supplies.
The project was completed in cooperation with Auto Works Kyoto and Takara Belmont Japan, which assisted with custom vehicle refitting. The bus was completed in September 2011 and began touring disaster areas.
Beauty Bus visited various locations with the goal of providing a little personal beauty to lighten the spirits of those impacted by the disaster. Then in 2013, the tour focused on areas which still had temporary housing, providing residents with complimentary makeup and hair styling, complete with a professional photograph.
Program managers wanted to provide special assistance to people who continued living in temporary dwellings and thus faced prolonged hardship. In order to cheer these residents, even a little, project activities continued in 15 municipalities in Iwate Prefecture, Miyagi Prefecture and Fukushima Prefecture.
The Beauty Bus project was completed in spring 2015, and the vehicle was donated for exhibition at the Motorcar Museum of Japan in Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
