Nissan has a long history of the development of EV from Tama electric vehicle by gTokyo Electro Automobile Co.h in 1947.
In 1990s, Nissan decided to adopt the world's first commercialized lithium ion batteries by Sony Corporation and started joint development with Sony in 1992. The lease of this gPrairie Joy EV,h the world's first EV on the market with lithium ion battery, to companies started in 1997.
It showed sufficient performance with the max. speed of 120km/h and mileage per charge of over 200km. Its large interior space of minivans was also favorable. This car was used to collect Arctic air at National Institute of Polar Research in Norway from 2000 to 2006 with no trouble.
