430 was rolled out as the fifth generation Cedric and the sixth generation Gloria in 1979. Unlike the preceding 2 generations, it had a linear form that got favorable reviews.
Japan's first Electronic Concentrated Engine Control System (ECCS) was adopted to control ignition and idling, to power up, and to improve fuel efficiency and environmental performance. Turbo engine (L20E·T) cars were added in 1979 during the second oil crisis. Since turbocharger technologies enable small displacement engine to achieve high power and fuel efficiency, turbo engines met the demand for energy saving and Nissan triggered the trend.
