Specialty Car
The first generation Silvia released in 1965 was a high-end 2-seater sports coupe, but the second generation S10 released in 1975 fell into the specialty car category. The hardtop body with spaceship-like styling attracted attention. Features included deep-set headlamps and front grill, combination rear lamps and side character line that went down to rear wheel arch. Exterior was such characteristic, but interior was sporty with horizontally aligned 4 round meters.
Originally Nissan's first rotary engine was to be mounted but the plan was canceled due to oil crisis, etc. Actually mounted was L18 engine (4-cyl.in line OHC, 1800cc). The official name of S10 series is "New Silvia" in Japan, while "Datsun 200SX" in the U.S.
