430 rolled out in 1979 as the fifth generation Cedric and the sixth generation Gloria had a linear, clean form and got favorable reviews. Japan's first Electronic Concentrated Engine Control System (ECCS) was implemented in the model with 2800cc engine to control ignition and idling by computer. Today, it is considered as the very first step toward "intelligent vehicles". Japan's first turbo engine (L20E·T) cars were added in 1979, which triggered the trend for turbo engines since they enable small displacement engine to achieve high power and good fuel efficiency.
