In 2003, Skyline GT-R (BNR34) with V6 engine participated in Japan GT Championship (JGTC) as NISMO team. Although 6-cyl.in line engine was a symbol of Skyline GT-R, the engine length and the weight were limiting factors for performance improvement. Compact V6 engine brought revolutionary improvement of weight balance and lowering of center of gravity.
2003 was the last year for Skyline GT-R to run the race of GT500 class of JGTC because Fairlady Z (Z33) was to run in 2004. This is No.22 Motul Pitwork GT-R that, driven by Masami Kageyama and Richard Lyons, won Round 2 of JGTC held at Fuji International Speedway in 2003, and placed third in the drivers ranking.
