Tsuyoshi Hisakado

Born in 1981 in Kyoto, lives and works in Kyoto.
Sampling history and other phenomenon, Tsuyoshi Hisakado manipulates sound, light and other objects to theatrically create installation works, which allows the audiences to reunite with memories or stories. Hisakado completed an MFA at the department of Sculpture of Kyoto City University of Arts in 2007.
His recent major exhibitions include “still moving” (Former Suujin Elementary School, Kyoto, 2015), “What is Faith Today? ‘My god | Your god’” (Seian Art Center, Shiga, 2014), “Quantize” (Solo Exhibition, Ota Fine Arts, Tokyo, 2014), "Exchange―Planting the seed" (Aomori Contemporary Art Centre [ACAC], 2013) and “SHISEIDO artegg ‘Tsuyoshi Hisakado’” (Solo Exhibition, Shiseido Gallery, Tokyo, 2013). He formed an artist group SHINCHICA in 2002 and took charge of sound. He won the Recipient of Kyoto City Special Bounty Program For Art and Culture (2015).
Hisakado will also create the stage and sound design for Time’s Journey Through a Room, a new play by chelfitsch, which will have its world premiere in Kyoto Experiment in March 2016 and then tour several countries worldwide. He is also one of the nominees for VOCA 2016.

Artist's comment

It is a great honor to be selected as a finalist. I'll be approaching my work for the exhibition conscientiously, believing in a world where beautiful things can be described genuinely as such, and that is saved by this, and without losing the emotions with which I first encountered art.
It is never clear to me how to express my motivation for making something into a work. I simply hope that somehow, I can reel in sensations difficult to communicate, and that the work will become part of my heart, and resonate with the wider world.
