On Establishment of “IMT-2000,” a Planning Company for
a Next-Generation Mobile Telecommunication System

Tokyo ... Japan Telecom, Nissan Motor, and AirTouch International announced today that they have jointly established the “IMT-2000,” a new planning company for a next-generation mobile telecommunication system.

The new company has been established with the aim of starting up business to provide services using the W-CDMA (Wide band-Code Division Multiple Access), which is vying to become a unified global standard, following experiments with this new system conducted by Japan Telecom and Nissan Motor to date. To this end, it will undertake feasibility studies and make preparations with a view to filing an application for approval with the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications in line with the Ministry’s policies.

This planning company will evolve into a business operating company when all the preparations have been completed.
