Production, Domestic Sales, and Export Results
for September and the First Half of the Current Fiscal Year
TOKYO --- Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. Today announced its production, domestic sales, and export results for September 1998 and the first half of the fiscal year ending March 31, 1999.
1. Production, domestic sales and export results for September 1998
(1) Production
Nissan’s domestic production in September increased 0.8% to 147,361 units, posting the first year-on-year monthly rise since October 1997.
Overseas production was down 1.8% to 84,927 from a year earlier, marking the 3rd straight month of year-on-year decrease.
(2) Domestic Sales
Nissan’s domestic sales in September decreased 13.7% to 88,762 units compared
with those for last September, marking 4th straight month of year-on-year
decrease.
Nissan’s market share was also down 1.3 points to 20.7% compared with that for last September.
(3) Vehicle Exports
Nissan’s exports in September 1998 were up 13.5% to 69,899 units, marking the
first year-on-year monthly increase in six months.
2. Production, domestic sales and export results from April 1 to Sep. 30, 1998
(1) Production
Both domestic and overseas production for the first half of the current fiscal year decreased 12.6% and 7.2% from the previous year respectively, registering the first year-on-year decline since 1995.
(2) Domestic Sales
Nissan’s domestic sales for the first half of the current fiscal year were down
7. 0% to 434,375 units from a year earlier, marking the 3rd consecutive year-on
-year decrease.
Nissan’s market share in the domestic market edged up 0.3 points from the level of the previous year to 20.9%.
(3) Vehicle Exports
Nissan’s exports in the first half of the current fiscal year were 344,537 units, representing a decrease of 3.6% from the previous year and the first decline in two years.
