SUPPLEMENTAL NISSAN NEWS From: Corporate Communications Department Cumulative Domestic Production of the Cube Surpasses 100,000 Units Tokyo ‐ Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced that cumulative domestic production of the Cube, a novel type of compact wagon, has surpassed 100,000 units. This milestone was reached in approximately ten months since the Cube went into production in January of this year, an exceptionally rapid pace for a new model that ranks second only to the March released in 1982. The Cube has continued to sell briskly since it was released in February. Among other attributes, its easy-to-maneuver body size, spacious interior and nimble, sedan-like driving performance have been especially enthusiastically received by a wide range of buyer segments. As part of Nissan's environmental efforts, the Cube lineup includes models which combine the N-CVT continuously variable transmission with a low-emission vehicle (LEV) specification that reduces exhaust emissions to around one-tenth of the levels specified under Japan's current emission standards. In the area of safety as well, the Cube achieves top-level performance in its class by adopting Nissan's high-strength Zone Body construction, dual airbag supplemental restraint systems (SRS) for the driver and front passenger and side airbag SRS for both front occupants. Furthermore, the Cube Enchante and the Cube Driving Helper are offered as lifecare vehicles that are easy to use by senior citizens or persons with special mobility needs. These wide-ranging features and model variations make the Cube distinctly friendly to both people and the environment, a quality highly befitting this unique, new-generation car. On the sales front, Nissan established a "Cube leasing program" targeted at individual customers and featuring low monthly lease payments. This is Nissan's first experience with this new purchasing method, which has attracted a great deal of attention. The Cube is being built at Nissan's Murayama Plant under a mixed production system together with the March. The production lines have continued to maintain a high operating rate, including operation on holidays. Workers have been dispatched from other Nissan plants and affiliated companies to assist with production operations on account of the strong demand for the Cube.
