Nissan Names Its New Minivan "Prairie Liberty" Tokyo ] Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced that the name Liberty has been selected for a newly developed minivan. The name comes from the English word glibertyh and is intended to signify a vehicle that enables family members and friends to enjoy traveling freely as they wish. The Prairie Liberty has been developed as a new 2.0-liter minivan to succeed the Prairie Joy. Among other features, it has a compact body, sliding doors on both sides and three rows of seats accommodating seven passengers. The new minivan will be targeted mainly at families with children of elementary school age or younger. Since its debut in 1982, the Prairie has been instrumental in developing the utility vehicle market as Japanfs original minivan, providing outstanding spaciousness, interior comfort and convenience in a compact package that delivers high levels of essential vehicle performance. In conjunction with this generational change, Prairie Liberty has been chosen as the new model's name and thorough steps have been taken to enhance further the superb driving ease and excellent utility for which the Prairie has been highly acclaimed over the years. With the aim of achieving both environmental friendliness and superior driving performance, the Prairie Liberty newly adopts the HYPER CVT (continuously variable transmission), and the lineup also includes low-emission vehicle (LEV) models. The Prairie Liberty is set to be announced and released on November 16 and will be sold by Motor channel dealers throughout Japan.
