November 15, 1999 Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. Nissan Carest Zama Co., Ltd. Carest Zama, Completion CeremonyTOKYO --- Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. have for some time now, had plans to use parts of the site at Zama Operation Center for the construction of the Carest Zama comprehensive, automotive services and supplies retail mall. The mall was conceived with the aim of providing a total retail service for all automotive needs at one location. The new and largest scale retail outlet of its type in the country, new and used vehicles, as well as parts and accessories will be sold, and maintenance services offered. Construction of the mall, located in Hironodai, Zama City, Kanagawa, is now complete, and we are holding this special ceremony today to commemorate the achievement. We are pleased to welcome distinguished attendance including, from Nissan, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Yoshikazu Hanawa and other executives, and we also have great pleasure in the attendance of the Mayor of Zama, Mr. Katsuji Hoshino. Realizing the need to provide consumers easy access and to improve sales efficiency per each model, Nissan converted their four domestic sales channels into two-channel sales system from April 1999. Because Carest Zama completed today, will integrate all of the operations associated with vehicle ownership, including sales of new cars, used cars, parts and supplies and service, it will be able to meet wide-ranging customer needs. Nissan expects this will significantly improve customer-drawing power and thereby contribute to greater sales efficiency. Carest Zama will have the following major features. (1) Expansive premises: Located on the 120,000-square-meter site will be an integrated mall facility for new cars, parts, supplies and service, a used car display area and NUC's auto auction arena. A customer parking lot holding approximately 700 vehicles will also be completed. (2) Overwhelming product selection: All of Nissan's new car models will be on display (over 100 units) together with some 1,000 used cars, irrespective of the manufacturer, which will be displayed in an area about twice the size of the Tokyo Dome baseball field. An inventory search system will also be available at the mall to enable customers to conduct searches of the used car inventories of all Nissan dealers nationwide. More than 20,000 parts and supplies, including both Nissan Genuine items and commercially available items, will be on sale. (3) Ample facilities for experiencing and confirming vehicle performance: A 800-meter-lap test drive course will be constructed on the premises. Computer terminals installed in the mall will enable customers to obtain product information, make price estimates, perform simulations of different combinations of vehicles and parts and conduct searches for a wide variety of information. Electric carts will be used in the used car display area to enable customers to see many vehicles on display easily and comfortably. (4) New buying methods:
(5) Total support for customers' vehicle needs: By bringing together new and used car display and sales, parts and supplies and service operations at one location and on such an overwhelming scale, the mall will achieve a new business approach capable of responding to customers' complete vehicle needs for greater enjoyment of their vehicles. The Personal Maintenance System, PMS, is being introduced at Carest Zama. This magnificent service includes three years free maintenance, provision of emergency support services 24 hours a day, and a system for consecutively keeping customers up to date with their own individual automotive parts requirements over time. By these factors, this mall, which can bring peace of mind to consumers and establish long-term relationships with its customers, would surely make customers call it their "only one auto mall". Moreover, based on the results and experience of Carest Zama, Nissan is also looking at the possibility of establishing similar large-scale auto malls at several dozen locations throughout Japan in the future. The name Carest has been coined by adding the superlative suffix "est" to the word "car." It also expresses the idea of being a place of "rest" for "car" owners.
