6. Main Points of the Organizational Changes
The company will implement three major organizational changes effective July 1
with the aim of promoting various activities related to its global business reform
and the alliance with Renault.
(1) Reorganization of product and design functions to create attractive products
efficiently.
(2) Reorganization of product planning and manufacturing functions to achieve
higher levels of QCD (quality, cost, and delivery), namely to improve quality, lower
costs, and improve delivery.
(3) Reorganization of corporate planning and administrative functions to achieve
a "small head office."
The main points of the changes are as follows.
(1) Reorganization of Product and Design Functions to Create Attractive Products
Efficiently
Establishment of the New Planning Group
Product and market planning and design development functions will be separated
from the Development Group and reorganized into a new Planning Group. This
new structure will enable the company to create attractive products in a timely manner
by unifying product planning and corporate planning functions.
A Product and Market Planning Division will be established to improve
and strengthen product and market strategy planning functions by region and product
strategy planning by vehicle class on a global level.
An Alliance Coordination Office will be established in the Corporate
Planning Office. This new office will serve as the Nissan-side administrative office
to manage the Global Alliance Committee (GAC) and Cross-Company Teams (CCT) that
have been established to make the most of the synergy effects of the Nissan-Renault
alliance.
(2) Reorganization of Product Planning and Manufacturing Functions to Achieve
Higher Levels of QCD
1.Development Division, Production and Engineering Division, and Customer Service
Division will be consolidated into a new Technology and Engineering Development
Group
These divisions will be consolidated to further shorten development processes,
reduce technical costs, and strengthen the quality assurance system.
To enhance the benefits of the consolidation, a new Resources Administration
Division will be established to centralize control of management resources.
2.Establishment of New Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering Division
A new Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering Division will be established
to unify the structure for administering global QCD functions, and the overseas support,
maintenance engineering, and quality groups of the Production Engineering Division
will be transferred to this new division.
3.Divisional integration of powertrain development - manufacturing functions
A new Powertrain Operations Group will be established to strengthen
the product, cost, and quality competitiveness of powertrains, ensure timely supply
of powertrains for vehicle production, and promote sales outside the company. With
a newly established Powertrain Operations Division as the nucleus, the new
operations group will be created to integrate development and production functions.
This group will include the Yokohama Plant and Iwaki Plant.
4.Centralization of Purchasing Functions
Various purchasing functions (determination of prices and suppliers) currently
being performed outside the Purchasing Division will be brought together to reduce
costs throughout the company by taking advantage of the Purchasing DivisionĠs expertise
in cutting costs.
(3) Reorganization of Corporate Planning and Administrative Functions to Achieve
a "Small Head Office"
1.Reorganization of corporate planning and administrative functions
Business Reform Promotion Department and the property development work of the
Administration Department will be integrated into a new Business Reform Group created
in the Finance Department.
The Administration Department, Osaka Branch, and Kyushu Branch will be abolished
and the various activities of these organizations will be transferred to other departments.
2.Promotion of outsourcing
Part of the work of the Business Reform Promotion Department, Finance Department,
and Administration Department will be transferred to affiliated companies. Furthermore,
part of the Human Resources Development Department and Nissan Technical College will
be spun off to create new companies.
