FUTURE TECHNOLOGY/CONCEPT

- Environment Technologies

The HR12DDR is a newly developed 3-cylinder 1.2-liter direct injection gasoline engine with supercharger that aims to achieve class-leading low CO2 emissions. Together with friction reduction (-30%) and a high compression ratio of 13:1 to improve combustion efficiency, the small-displacement 1.2-liter engine is "downsized and charged" to aim for power on a par with a 1.5-liter engine and only 95g/km CO2*. It will be offered in the 2011 Micra in Europe.

Compression Ratio of 13:1
Nissan achieved a high compression ratio while suppressing knock, without raising combustion chamber temperature.
DIG: Latent heat of vaporization cools the air-fuel mixture which has been compressed to a high temperature.- Piston with cooling channel: Releases heat from the combustion chamber.
- Sodium exhaust valve: Releases heat from the combustion chamber.
Miller Cycle
In this cycle, intake valve closure is delayed, using C-VTC, so the combustion-driven expansion stroke (power stroke) is longer than the actual compression stroke, allowing thermal energy to be converted efficiently into kinetic energy. Because cylinder volume is, in effect, reduced, the throttle valve opens wider than in conventional 4-stroke operation and pumping loss is reduced to improve efficiency.
Friction Reduction
Compared to traditional 4-cylinder engines, friction is reduced by about 30%, thanks to hydrogen-free DLC* coated valve lifters and piston rings, a variable capacity oil pump, and other technologies.*DLC:Diamond Like Carbon
High Efficiency Supercharger
This engine uses a high efficiency supercharger. In situations where power is needed, it provides 1.5-liter class performance; when running at a steady speed in the city or other situations, the supercharger is turned off to provide the efficiency to achieve high fuel economy. In this way, it delivers both performance and fuel economy.
Idling Stop System
The engine turns off when the car is not moving, so CO2 emission is further reduced.
