Nissan has developed clean diesel technology which meets the state of California's standard for super-ultra-low emission vehicles (SULEVs), as part of the company's ultimate goal of making engine exhaust to the atmospheric level.
Emissions Regulations Level

*SULEV: California regulations are graded from LEVII-LEV, LEVII-ULEV, LEVII-SULEV to LEVII-ZEV.
Tier2Bin: U.S. federal regulations are ranked from Bin10 to Bin1.
Technology overview

Nissan's unique low-temperature/premix combustion (MK) is quiet and clean
- Improvement in combustion technology
MK combustion technology controls generation of regulated substances from the source - Development of new catalyst (HC-NOx trap catalyst)
HC is effectively used as a regulated substance to generate a chemical reaction of NOx reduction. This helps realize highly efficient removal of HC and NOx. - Advanced engine control is operated by a highly efficient catalyst and combustion improvement.

Future
Nissan will continue development aiming at Tier2Bin1 level diesel engines, along with biofuels, which largely reduce CO2 emissions.
