Nissan has added full-speed range following capability and a navigation-enabled function to its Intelligent Cruise Control.
Purpose
To realize Nissan's Safety Shield concept that "vehicles helps protect people", and to help drivers to maintain comfortable driving.
Features
When following a vehicle ahead, the system controls following distance, and integrates route-information via the on-board navigation system to control the speed of the vehicle when going into a curve.
Full-speed range following capability
Previous systems functioned within the range of approximately 5-100 km/hour, whereas the new system functions across the full-speed range.
Navigation-enabled function
Utilizing route-information fed through the on-board navigation system, the Intelligent Cruise Control system can modulate the vehicle-speed in anticipation of the next curve on the road.
The system operates using information from a distance sensor. When following a vehicle ahead, the system controls following distance. If the vehicle ahead comes to a stop, the vehicle decelerates to a standstill within the limitations of the system.
When approaching a curve with no vehicle ahead, the system gradually decelerates, and as it clears a curve onto a straight road, the system seamlessly resumes to the driver's preset speed.

System Configuration
When the Distance Control Assist and Intelligent Cruise Control are both installed, the driver can select either function, according to the situation, by using a steering wheel-mounted switch.
