Evolving Supplier Quality

Through our total management system, we ensure supplier quality on a global basis and down to the smallest detail.

As we build true partnerships with suppliers, supplier quality evolves and improves.

* To build on the strong partnership with suppliers, there needs to be a management system, that allows for two-way communication, where Nissan can specify our needs and the suppliers are also able to provide their feedback. To promote increased communication, Nissan periodically holds quality conferences with our suppliers around the world. These conferences bring together our suppliers' top management from Europe, North America and Japan, to provide a global overview of supply chain quality. Such supplier conferences promote the exchange of new ideas, discuss issues related to quality and establish better quality management systems.

* Ensuring quality from the smallest components to creating a more comprehensive quality management system in partnership with suppliers

A car contains approximately ten thousand components. Take one of those components apart, however, and you will find it made up of numerous smaller components. We should be aware that the quality of these extremely small parts can determine the quality of the entire car.

Assembling a single component often involves multiple manufacturers, and most suppliers often procure parts from other manufacturers. Nissan maintains a component's supply chain chart to closely monitor the supply-route of each component, particularly the critical components.

  • * A sub-supplier is a company that supplies various small components or provides specialized technical cooperation with a supplier.
