YOKOHAMA, Japan (July 2, 2012) - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced that the 29th Nissan Children's Storybook and Picture Book Grand Prix is open to submissions from aspiring writers starting July 2.
Sponsored by Nissan, this Grand Prix was first organized in May 1984 by the International Institute for Children's Literature-Osaka, and now attracts close to 3,000 entries each year. It hopes to identify talented writers and illustrators of children's books, and offer them a platform to showcase their works. The Grand Prize winning works will be published, and have paved the way for several past Grand Prix winners to begin successful publishing careers. Applications will close on Wednesday, October 31, 2012. Further details are available at the following website (in Japanese only).
As part of its corporate philanthropic initiative, Nissan will fund the publication and distribution of the winning works to approximately 4,100 locations, including libraries, kindergartens and nursery schools near Nissan offices/plants in Japan in cooperation with BL Publishing Co., Ltd. In addition, Nissan holds the "Nissan Joyful Storybook and Picture Book Exhibition" during the spring school holidays every year. In addition, a public reading session of children's storybooks was held at the Nissan Global Headquarters Gallery in Yokohama in March 2012.
At the global level, a wide range of Nissan's worldwide corporate initiatives for children and books includes donation of books to deprived children in China and Nissan North America's continuous support for ‘the Books From Birth Foundation’.
Nissan has defined the priority areas of its corporate citizenship activities: "education", "environment" and "humanitarian efforts", and has been working on extensively on these three areas. Initiatives include the "Nissan Children's Storybook and Picture Book Grand Prix" and the support for areas hit by natural disasters. Looking to the future, Nissan will continue its philanthropic activities.
