NISSAN ANNOUNCES WINNERS OF 24TH NISSAN CHILDREN'S STORYBOOK AND PICTURE BOOK GRAND PRIX
- 16th Nissan Joyful Storybook and Picture Book Exhibition to be held in conjunction at the National Children's Castle -
TOKYO (March 7, 2008) - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced 38 winning stories for the 24th Nissan Children's Storybook and Picture Book Grand Prix. The story book Grand Prize entitled "Haruninattara Aketekudasai" was won by Ms. Kunie Masui of Nishinomiya, Hyogo. The picture book Grand Prize was awarded to "Moimoi no Pokke" by Mr. H@L of Sakai, Osaka.
Nissan is the main sponsor for the 24th Grand Prix which is organized by the International Institute for Children's Literature, Osaka. In collaboration with the National Children's Castle (Foundation for Child Well-being), Nissan is holding the "16th Nissan Joyful Storybook and Picture Book Exhibition", to be held at the Atrium Gallery of the National Children's Castle in Shibuya, Tokyo from March 25 to April 6.

The Grand Prix attracted 3,062 entries from amateur authors and illustrators between July to October 2007, comprising 2,366 children's storybooks and 696 picture books.
The two Grand Prize stories - "Haruninattara Aketekudasai" and "Moimoi no Pokke" - will be published and will be available at bookstores after December. The books will also be distributed to various public and private libraries and educational institutions across Japan, courtesy of Nissan.
To promote the budding authors and illustrators, a booklet to introduce the eight Grand Prize, Special Prize winners and Excellent Prize winners will be distributed at Nissan Galleries and other locations throughout Japan.
The awards ceremony will be held at the Nissan Yokohama Club on March 8. The Grand and Special Prize winners will receive prize money, exclusive prizes and Nissan goods.
* The Nissan Children's Storybook and Picture Book Grand Prix commemorates the May 1984 opening of the International Institute for Children's Literature, Osaka - Japan's first comprehensive center for international children's literature. Through the publication of the Grand Prize winners, the contest aims to provide children with inspiring and imaginative storybooks and picture books. The publications are donated through Nissan offices to approximately 3,500 libraries and 700 kindergartens and nursery schools across Japan. More than 151,000 books have now been donated since the start of the Grand Prix.

24th Grand Prix winners announced: Haruninattara Aketekudasai and Moimoi no Pokke
"Haruninattara Aketekudasai", winner of the Grand Prize Storybook, is a warm story of about a family, where the tale begins with the mother receiving a parcel. Grand Prize Picture Book "Moimoi no Pokke" chronicles the adventures of Moimoi as it goes treasure hunting.
Three storybooks and three picture books were awarded Special Prizes and 20 storybooks and 10 picture books received Excellent Prizes.

16th Nissan Joyful Storybook and Picture Book Exhibition
The 16th Nissan Joyful Storybook and Picture Book Exhibition will feature a series of panels from "Suika Bozu" by Shinya Tomita, last year's 23rd Grand Prize Picture Book winner. The exhibition has a dedicated children's reading corner. The program aims to cultivate the creativity of its young visitors, where children can participate in art workshops. The exhibition will also feature artwork created from vehicle interior fabric and other recycled materials. There will be a tapestry display produced by members of Children's Castle Association.
* The Nissan Joyful Storybook and Picture Book Exhibition has been jointly organized by Nissan and the National Children's Castle (Foundation for Child Well-being) since 1992. It is part of Nissan's continuing support for education amongst its many corporate citizenship initiatives. The event, now in its 16th year, aims to provide a place where children can exercise their imagination by experiencing picture books and storybooks.
