Nissan Publishes Inaugural Sustainability Report
Tokyo - Nissan Motor Co., Ltd., today announced the release of the company's first ever Sustainability Report.
Sustainability is the philosophy that a corporation should not only seek profit, but also be environmentally and socially responsible while striving for sustainable development. The Sustainability Report is a tool to help facilitate dialogue with Nissan's various stakeholders on the issue concerning corporate social responsibility (CSR).
"Sustainability is at the heart of our strategy," said Carlos Ghosn, Nissan President and CEO. "You can see it in our vision, in our mid-term and long-term plans, in our management process, in our investment process. You see it in our specific actions."
In its inaugural Sustainability Report, Nissan reexamines its common ways of thinking and actions from the perspective of "What value are we creating for our stakeholders?" and formulates messages for each stakeholder group. Another characteristic of the Sustainability Report is that it perceives "employees" as one of the most important stakeholder groups, and features many opinions from its employees from around the world.
The publication of the Sustainability Report provided an opportunity for Nissan to develop a new framework for its various corporate reports. The Sustainability Report centers on Nissan's concept of corporate social responsibility. The Annual Report, Environmental Report and Social Contribution Report, respectively, describe Nissan's activities in the major three areas of CSR: economic, environmental, and social.
