June 26, 2003 Nissan To Release All-New Presage Tokyo -- Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. today announced that the fully redesigned Presage minivan will be released in the domestic market on July 24.
One of the most prominent features of the all-new Presage is its simple and easy-to-use seating arrangements. The third-row seat stows under the floor in a simple one-touch operation to create a large luggage area. The second-row seat on the passenger side incorporates a remote-control walk-in feature that makes it easier to get in and out of the third-row seat. This second-row seat also slides sideways, reconfiguring it as a captain's seat or a bench seat, according to seating needs. With these and other versatile seating arrangements that can be conveniently reconfigured, this new minivan will enable families to enjoy a wide variety of enriching activities together. On the inside, the interior has been rendered in a stylish, modern design befitting active lifestyles. In addition, the Presage is based on the same FF-L (Front engine, Front drive, Large) platform that is featured on the Teana. This gives the Presage solid underpinnings for delivering sedan-like dynamic performance and superb ride comfort. The Presage comes with a host of highly practical equipment and attributes, including a glass hatch in the back door, a side blind spot monitor, and outstanding ease of ingress and egress thanks to its low, flat floor and sliding doors on both sides. The Presage also provides high-level safety performance, featuring Japan's first SRS side curtain airbag systems that extend protection even to third-row seat occupants. The principal unique features of the Presage include: Sales target: Dealers selling the Presage: Sales launch events: Presage Overview Styled on the basis of the flowing form and excellent road stance of the standard models, the Highway Star is fitted with exclusive exterior trim parts to give the lower body a look of greater volume that further enhances its sporty appearance. Interior 2. Vehicle packaging and seating arrangements Interior livability has been enhanced by keeping the overall height to a low 1,685 mm, thereby lowering the car's center of gravity, and by increasing the interior height to 1,250 mm. At 2,995 mm, the interior's overall length is one of the longest in this class, while the car's overall length has been kept to 4,840 mm. Open space overhead and legroom have been increased to create a roomy interior that provides comfortable seating for six adults while still securing sufficient luggage-carrying space. By sliding the passenger-side second-row seat sideways, it can be reconfigured in a captain's seat mode or in a three-passenger bench seat mode to accommodate different seating requirements. A variety of measures have been taken to provide superior ease of vehicle ingress and egress. For instance, the floor is designed low and flat with no height difference between it and the step. The seat cushion height has been lowered, making it easier to get in and out of the seats. The sliding doors open wide to create a larger opening for easier access. The passenger-side second-row seat incorporates a remote-control walk-in feature that allows the driver to slide the seat ahead and simultaneously tilt the seatback forward at the push of a dashboard switch, thereby supporting easier ingress/egress to and from the third-row seat. Simply pulling a ring handle once on the left-hand side of the luggage bay stows the third-row seat under the floor to create a large luggage area. The luggage bay has one of the widest openings of any vehicle in this class as well as a low floor height from the ground. These and other thoughtful considerations make the loading and unloading of items remarkably easy. 3. Mechanisms The VQ35DE engine delivers smooth, powerful dynamic performance in the practical speed range of ordinary driving. Additionally, this engine is teamed with the XTRONIC CVT continuously variable transmission, a newly developed large-capacity CVT capable of handling the high torque of a 3.5-liter engine, to provide smooth driving performance combined with low fuel consumption. Ripple-control shock absorbers are adopted in the front suspension to improve tire-road contact by isolating the transmission of minute vibrations from the road surface, and a multi-link suspension is used at the rear. This suspension hardware delivers a comfortable ride together with superb handling and stability. The FF-L platform secures a wide track and a long wheelbase and also facilitates the use of the new multi-link rear suspension and large-diameter tires, all of which work to provide complete peace of mind when executing steering maneuvers and a notably comfortable ride. Models fitted with the 2.5-liter engine come with the Auto Control 4WD system that delivers outstanding traction performance as well as improved fuel economy due to its smaller and lighter design. Models equipped with the 3.5-liter engine feature the All-Mode 4x4 System that provides stable start-off acceleration even on snow-covered or other slippery road surfaces. 4. Practicality Available on the left rear side is a remote-control automatic sliding door that opens and closes at the touch of a switch, either from the driver's seat, the second-row seat or the remote-control key fob. A side blind spot monitor has been adopted that provides a color view of the car's left front-end, giving the driver handy visual assistance when parking alongside something or meeting oncoming traffic on a narrow road, among other situations. This system incorporates an infrared LED for nighttime use and displays guidelines on the navigation system monitor for positioning the vehicle's left side and front-end. The Presage also comes with a back-view monitor that provides a color view of the area behind the car for easier confirmation of objects. The monitor is capable of displaying guidelines indicating the vehicle width and rearward distance. The seat fabric incorporates a deodorizing function that adsorbs and dissolves unpleasant odors in the interior. The interior abounds in convenient storage places. The center control switch incorporates an eight-way independent push-switch controller for simple and easy-to-understand operation of the navigation system, audio system and other functions. One of the optional features available on all models is Nissan's CARWINGS telematics service for both "enjoyable connectivity" and "peace-of-mind connectivity." The Presage adopts a card-type Intelligent Key system that enables users to lock/unlock all the doors, unlock the glass hatch and start/stop the engine, simply by carrying the key fob with them. The card has a built-in emergency key and also incorporates an engine immobilizer function. 5. Safety and environmental performance All Presage models are certified as ultra-low emission vehicles (U-LEVs)*1 because they emit 75% fewer exhaust emissions than the levels mandated under Japan's 2000 exhaust emission regulations. With their excellent fuel economy, they also qualify for tax reductions*2 under the Green Tax program. *1Vehicles certified as U-LEVs under the low-emission vehicle certification system of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) and hydrocarbon (HC) emissions by an additional 75% from the levels required by Japan's 2000 exhaust emission regulations. This system was inaugurated in April 2000 to encourage the penetration of low-emission vehicles through their selection by ordinary consumers. *2For vehicles complying with the requirements of the Green Tax program, the automobile acquisition tax on newly registered vehicles for personal use is reduced by 15,000 yen until March 31, 2004, and for U-LEVs the automobile tax is reduced by 50% for one year beginning from the next fiscal year after a vehicle is registered. E-ATx: Full-range electronically controlled 4-speed automatic transmission XTRONIC CVT: Continuously variable transmission Autech Japan To Release Presage Rider and Presage Enchante Series Autech Japan, Inc., a Nissan affiliate, today announced that it has customized the Presage Rider, a special specifications vehicle, and two Presage Enchante lifecare vehicles* (Enchante Second-row Seat Type and Enchante Passenger's Seat Type) in conjunction with this full model change of the Presage. The Presage Enchante models are designed for easy vehicle ingress and egress. All of these models will be released in the domestic market on July 24. *Nissan group companies use the term lifecare vehicle (LV) to refer to vehicles that are specifically designed to assist persons with special mobility needs in their everyday lives.

The Presage Rider provides sporty handling with superb high-speed stability, thanks to the use of exclusive tires (TRANPATH MP3 made by Toyo Tire & Rubber Co., Ltd.) and an exclusively tuned suspension system.

Overview of Presage Enchante Series Control switches for sliding the seat fore/aft or reclining it, all by means of the electric motor, are thoughtfully located on both the left and right sides of the seat for easy operation by a caregiver or by the seat occupant personally. In addition, the Second-row Slide-out Lift Seat can be fitted with an ISO-FIX compatible child seat. This is the first raisable/lowerable seat capable of accommodating this equipment for improved safety. Enchante Series models can be fitted with a motor-powered wheelchair lift, available as a dealer-installed option, for loading a heavy wheelchair into the luggage area without having to pick it up manually.
