Overview of Cima
1. Dynamic and distinctive exterior
At the front, the expressive, sculpted look of the hood and uniquely shaped multi-projector xenon headlamps emphasize the Cima's striking presence and flagship status. Incorporating seven convex lenses, the multi-projector xenon headlamps not only give the Cima an impressive front view, they also ensure excellent visibility by providing approximately 1.7 times more light and a substantially expanded illumination range, compared with the xenon headlamps used on the previous model (standard equipment on all models except the 300G).

Turn indicator lamps are built into the electrically operated, foldable door mirrors so that motorcycle riders at an oblique rear angle and others can easily know when the Cima intends to make a right or left turn. Lamps are also provided in the bottoms of the mirrors to illuminate the ground below for more convenient entry at night or in dark places.

A choice of six handsome body colors is offered, including Champagne Silver Titanium Metallic, which changes hues subtly depending on the viewing angle for a heightened three-dimensional sensation. In addition, Light Blue Titanium Metallic and Sonic Silver Metallic are also available as exclusive body colors on the 450XV Limited Edition model that will be sold for a limited time only until March 31.

2. Bright, modern interior
A modern-looking interior with a feeling of openness is created by the gently rounded curves of the instrument panel and the cabin's bright color scheme.

The concentrated control switch layout and the large, vertically sliding 8-inch wide LCD monitor in the center instrument cluster are readily visible and simple to operate, while expressing a sense of advanced technology yet simplicity. When not being used for navigation or television viewing, the LCD monitor retracts neatly into the instrument panel and can display operating screens for the audio system and air-conditioning system (standard on the 450VIP and 450XV and optional on other grades).

Compared with the previous model, the cabin height has been increased by 25 mm, front-seat headroom by 35 mm and rear-seat headroom by 20 mm, to create a more spacious, comfortable interior.

Seats are upholstered either in genuine leather or a fine-quality moquette. Genuine leather upholstery is available in a color selection of Ecru(J), Caffe Latte(C) and Black(G), while the moquette fabric comes in Caffe Latte(C) only.

The rear doors open to nearly a right angle for easier ingress and egress, and knee room in the rear seat has been increased by 40 mm over the previous model for more spacious comfort.

Rain-sensitive windshield wipers that operate automatically when rain is detected are standard on the 450VIP and 450XV and optional on other grades except the 300G.

The 450VIP grade is offered to enable rear-seat passengers to travel even more comfortably. This package of exclusive comfort amenities includes power rear seats with long-sliding travel of 150 mm, a front passenger's seat with a center seatback portion that folds down to serve as a leg rest for a rear-seat occupant and incorporates a vibrator for enhanced relaxation, large rear-seat power head restraints, rear-door sunshades and automatic rear-door closers. Moreover, an automatic trunk opening/closing mechanism is also available that opens and closes the trunk lid completely at the touch of a button to make loading and unloading cargo much more convenient.

3. Advanced ITS technologies for superior safety, comfort and convenience
The concentrated control switches and LCD monitor are positioned high on the instrument panel for easy viewing with little change in the driver's line of sight. Moreover, the monitor also displays operating screens for the audio system, air-conditioning system and other functions in the same arrangement as the control switch layout for significantly enhanced operating ease.

The COMPASSLINK*1 is provided to facilitate more comfortable driving by having an operator at an information center manipulate the navigation system, conduct information searches and perform other tasks in place of the driver. (This feature is standard on the 450VIP and 450XV and optional on other grades. Drivers need to conclude a service contract in order to use COMPASSLINK services.)

Access to HELPNET*2 emergency call system services is also provided. By simply pressing a button located in the map lamp panel, drivers can call the HELPNET operations center in the event of a sudden illness, injury or some other emergency. Depending on the nature of the situation, the operator will then contact the competent police or fire department or other authorities. (This feature is standard on the 450VIP and 450XV and optional on other grades. Drivers need to conclude a service contract in order to use HELPNET services.)

A built-in electronic toll collection (ETC*3) unit is also available as an option on models fitted with the car navigation system. (The smart card used with this ETC unit is obtained by concluding a separate contract with a credit card issuer. Sales of the unit will be launched in conjunction with the startup of commercial ETC service, which is scheduled to begin by March 31.)

A rear-view monitor system has been adopted to assist the driver in checking the area behind the car when backing up. A view from the car's rear-end is taken with a small CCD camera and displayed in color on the LCD monitor. (This feature is standard on the 450VIP and 450XV and optional on other grades except the 300G.)

The Cima implements the world's first lane-keeping assistance system that functions to reduce the driver's steering workload. This system also assists the driver's steering action to keep the car in its lane when incipient course deviation is caused by the road inclination, a crosswind or some other factor while traveling on a straight segment of an expressway (optional on the 450VIP and 450XV).

An adaptive cruise control system has also been adopted to reduce the driver's workload by assisting with acceleration and braking operations primarily on expressways and auto routes (optional on the 450VIP and 450XV).

A preview brake assist system is offered for reducing the stopping distance and collision speed in emergency situations. This system uses a millimeter-wave radar sensor to detect the distance and relative speed of another vehicle or an obstacle in the same lane in front of the host vehicle. In the event the system judges that emergency braking is needed, it applies pre-pressure to the brakes before the driver depresses the brake pedal, thereby improving the responsiveness of the braking system by reducing internal play in the brake assembly (optional on the 450VP and 450VX).

4. Driving pleasure backed by overwhelming performance harmonized with environmental friendliness
The Cima is fitted with Nissan's new NEO Di VK45DD 4.5-liter direct-injection V8 gasoline engine. This new-generation engine has been developed with the aim of harmonizing the automobile's intrinsic driving pleasure with the superb quietness and environmental friendliness one would expect in the Cima. Notable technologies incorporated in the NEO Di VK45DD engine include the Nissan Induction Control System (NICS), continuously variable valve timing control (CVTC) and an electronically controlled throttle, enabling it to generate class-leading power. It also operates with remarkable quietness primarily as a result of lightening the valve train and principal moving parts and adopting a super silent chain. Moreover, the use of direct injection and the mating of the engine with the new 5M-ATx full-range electronically controlled 5-speed automatic transmission with a manual shift mode enable the Cima to achieve a fuel economy figure of 10.0 km/l under Japan's 10-15 test mode (for a vehicle weight of up to 1,750 kg). Improvements made to the catalyst and other components also achieve clean exhaust emissions, with the result that the Cima has been certified as a low-emission vehicle (LEV*) under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's low-emission vehicle certification system.

The newly developed 5M-ATx full-range electronically controlled 5-speed automatic transmission that provides world-class performance in a compact, lightweight design is featured on 2WD models. The 5M-ATx shifts smoothly and crisply, and its compact size and light weight also help to achieve outstanding fuel economy. In addition, the manual mode enables drivers to enjoy shifting action faithful to their wishes.

*Exhaust emissions are reduced by an additional 25-49% from the levels allowed under Japan's 2000 exhaust emission regulations.

5. Environmental friendliness and world-class safety performance
Models fitted with the newly developed NEO Di VK45DD engine are certified as LEVs*1 under the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's low-emission vehicle certification system. They also comply with Japan's fuel economy standards*2 set to be enforced in FY 2010, which qualifies them for a reduction of the automobile acquisition tax under either one, but not both, of these systems.

The Cima achieves a recyclable rate of more than 90%*3 by weight, and the radiator core, heater core, wiring harness and various other parts are lead free.

In the area of safety, the Cima is fitted with SRS curtain airbags that cushion the impact to the heads of front- and rear-seat occupants in the event of a side collision.

Nissan's high-strength Zone Body construction that secures world-class crashworthiness has been adopted to provide high-level occupant safety. The Cima complies with the safety standards of countries throughout the world as well as meeting Nissan's own safety test criteria that are even more stringent. Among other safety standards, the Cima meets the requirements for full overlap frontal impacts at 55 km/h, offset frontal impacts at 64 km/h, side impacts at 55 km/h and rear-end impacts at 56 km/h.

*1 Vehicles complying with the 2000 exhaust emission regulations qualify for a 0.1% reduction of the automobile acquisition tax until February 28, 2001.
*2 For vehicles complying with the FY 2010 fuel economy standards, the automobile acquisition tax on vehicles registered for private use will be reduced by 15,000 yen until March 31, 2001. (This applies only to vehicles having an equivalent inertial weight of over 1.75 tons and fitted with an automatic transmission.)
*3 Calculated according to Nissan's own calculation standards.
