The R390 GT1 was the works machine raced by Nissan, returning to Le Man after an absence of seven years. It faced disappointment in 1997, when the best result was 12th overall (Hoshino, Comas, Kageyama). But in 1998, every Nissan made the top ten in overall rankings: No.32 (Hoshino, A. Suzuki, Kageyama) in 3rd, No.30 (Krumm) in 5th, No.31 (Comas) in 6th, and No.33 (Motoyama) in 10th position.
