The third-generation Bluebird was launched in August 1967 and it was a big hit, recording a total production run of 1,552,145 units. The following year in November, the coupe Series appeared with a 1,600cc engine. The 1600SSS coupe, powered by the L16 twin-carb engine, was particularly popular. It performed well in the Safari Rally (1970 overall winner) and received high praise worldwide.
