Nissan Green Shop Activities

Nissan Green Shop certification requires more than passing a single audit. To establish a system of environmental management and maintain and improve activities, approximately 60 Nissan inspectors conduct regular annual audits, as well as certification-renewal audits every three years. At the end of FY2005, all sales companies and dealerships (197 sales companies and approximately 3,400 dealerships) were recertified. In parallel with these Nissan corporate activities, sales companies also conduct their own internal audits every six months.

Starting with the 2003 audits, the conventional "pass/fail" method was augmented with the introduction of a point-based system. This enabled more meaningful assessments of the environmental performance level at each sales company by comparing with the company-wide average. By adopting such an evaluation system, Nissan has been able to boost awareness and motivation at workplaces.

  • * Total number of vehicle sales, service center, parts, forklift, and other sales companies as the end of March 2006.

Overall scores in FY2005 improved over those in FY2004, with three of the 197 sales companies receiving perfect scores. Twenty-nine audit items related to compliance with the Automobile Recycling Law, which took effect in January 2005, were added to the FY2005 Green Shop Audit Check Sheet for vehicles sales companies, service centers and others. Even with the addition of these audit items sales companies raised their scores, confirming that Green Shop activities were well established and getting better.

Nissan will continue to make improvements through the promotion of activities that comply with the Automobile Recycling Law and other efforts, and the addition of audit items that incorporate customer perspectives.
