Nissan promotes the collection and recycling of used plastic bumpers obtained during the repair and replacement of vehicle parts at dealers in Japan. The collected bumpers are recycled into new plastic parts for new vehicles. This initiative, originally implemented in 1992, has become firmly established and recycling volumes are steadily increasing. The number of bumpers collected in fiscal year 2005 totaled about 273,000.

Recovery of flares
Nissan dealers throughout Japan have been recovering and recycling car flares since FY2003. Flares were previously treated as non-industrial waste, but because of the possibility of spontaneous combustion and risk of damaging incinerators when a large volume of flares is incinerated, Nissan established its own system to process flares safely. Dealers now send the flares to specialized recyclers.
