Global targets for the reduction of environment-impacting substances
We have set voluntary global standards for environment-impacting substances in automobile materials, and are working to make corresponding reductions for each of these uniform standards. Laws, guidelines, and other regulations differ by country, but since parts procurement and vehicle distribution are spread across the globe, we believe that it is important to comply with uniform standards regardless of country.
Specifically, we have established standards for four heavy-metal compounds (mercury, lead, cadmium, hexavalent chromium) and specified brominated flame retardants (PBDE; polybrominated diphenyl ethers), and prohibit or limit their use on all new models launched on the market from July 2007.
Requesting our business partners reduce environment-impacting substances and provide progress reports on their efforts
Without the cooperation of our suppliers, we could not reduce environment-impacting substances.
In Japan, our requests to suppliers are set forth in the Nissan Green Procurement Guidelines, which calls for them to provide environmental data and reduce their use of substances that impact the environment.
