Nissan LEAF Assists in Disaster Areas with Gas Shortages

After the Great East Japan Earthquake, a gasoline shortage in disaster-stricken areas seriously hindered peopleís mobility, the transportation of relief goods and overall aid efforts by NGOs.

In response, Nissan loaned, at no cost, 65 electric vehicles (LEAFs) to local governments in affected regions. After the earthquake, different regions worked relatively quickly to repair their infrastructure. This meant power for Nissanís EVs to provide various administrative services in the midst of the post-earthquake chaos.

After receiving requests for assistance from aid agencies looking to travel to disaster areas to assess the condition of these areas, Nissan also worked with Nissan Car Rental Solutions Co. to lend seven rental cars such as the Elgrand at no cost to five organizations.

Nissan believes that providing vehicles in response to natural disasters is a form of support unique to automobile manufacturers and has been using its cars to help regions all over the world impacted by a variety of natural disasters.
