Nissan is proud to be an official partner to the Yokohama F. Marinos. In 2011 this football club carried out "Team as One," a program to offer support to areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake. In this program, the professional J. League team set up donation boxes in its official shops and launched sales of T-shirts and football scarves for charity. Beginning on March 26, just weeks after the March 11 disaster, the team sent out its players, staff members, and others associated with the club to locations in Yokohama and elsewhere in Kanagawa Prefecture, where they collected donations in person. The program also saw the sale of special sets including charity T-shirts and tickets to see F. Marinos matches, made available to Nissan employees.
"Team as One" collected funds via its donation boxes through the end of 2011. Thanks to the warm support and cooperation of many donors, the program raised a total of ¥22,051,738. The full amount was delivered via the J. League Secretariat and the Japanese Red Cross for use in recovery and rebuilding activities.
In July 2011, meanwhile, Nissan brought 120 children to Yokohama from the city of Iwaki, Fukushima Prefecture, which suffered damage in the quake. With cooperation from the F. Marinos, the children took part in a football workshop and watched a match between the Yokohama team and Vissel Kobe. This tour was a great chance for these children, who have been unable to play freely outside very often since the disaster, to exercise in the fresh air once again.
