Nissan supported the Karuizawa Arts Festival 2007

The Nissan X-TRAIL FCV (fuel cell vehicle), with zero CO2 emission, played an active role at the Karuizawa Arts Festival

From August 20 - 24, four X-TRAIL FCVs were active in transporting artists to music events during the Karuizawa Arts Festival 2007, held primarily at the Karuizawa Ohga Hall. The festival enjoyed good weather and the four X-TRAIL FCVs lived up to their expected performance in the verdant town of Karuizawa.

This was the first year for the Karuizawa Arts Festival. During the summer holidays many tourists travel to Karuizawa, which contribute to increased traffic. The festival organizers wanted the festival to be an environmentally-friendly event. Nissan was pleased to support their efforts by offering the X-TRAIL FCV vehicles as "green" transport.

Some 71 artists performed at the Ohga Hall and other venues. About 42 artists were chauffeur-driven to the Hall venue in the X-TRAIL FCVs. Nissan also provided transport for many involved in the festival events. To-date a total of 15,000 people have attended the concerts and other events at the Karuizawa Arts Festival to enjoy the "art of the highlands". In addition to the artists, many visitors also had the opportunity to experience Nissan's advanced technology through the X-TRAIL FCV.

Since there were no hydrogen-fuelling facilities in Karuizawa, a mobile hydrogen station was set up to refuel the vehicles. This was an excellent opportunity to raise public awareness: the sight of a vehicle being refueled with hydrogen.

X-TRAIL FCVs visit to elementary schools in Karuizawa

As part of the Nissan visiting environmental classroom, the X-TRAIL FCVs visited three elementary schools in Karuizawa. The classes covered issues related to the current global environmental in an easy-to-understand manner that would pique the students' interest. The students were treated to "green" drives with the X-TRAIL FCV. Over a two-day period, a total of 277 students and teachers had the opportunity to experience the X-TRAIL FCV and its advanced green technology. They expressed surprise and delight with comments such as, "it is very quiet", "it has no smell at all."

Nissan Children's Storybook and Picture Book Grand Prix Exhibition

As part of its corporate citizenship activities, Nissan, co-sponsored the Nissan Children's Storybook and Picture Book Grand Prix held at the Karuizawa Museum of Picture Books from August 1 - 26. The 22nd Picture Book Grand Prize winning entry, "Haru to Kaminari", and the 23rd Grand Prize winning entry, "Suika Bozu", were on exhibit along with previously-published works and posters. Visitors could explore the beautiful art and picture books at the exhibit. In conjunction with the exhibition, many took the opportunity to attend the mini concert, which was held as part of the Karuizawa Arts Festival.
