Nissan Hosts Environmental Class at Yokohama's Honcho Elementary School

On March 6, 2007, Nissan hosted a class on the environment at Honcho Elementary School in Yokohama, featuring a demonstration of its "2005 Model X-TRAIL FCV" fuel cell vehicle. The program demonstrates Nissan's commitment to support education and protecting the environment, two priority areas under its corporate citizenship charter. Nissan established the program in partnership with Honcho Elementary School, which places a strong emphasis on environmental education throughout the school year.

Established in 1905, Honcho Elementary School is a public school with more than a century of history and tradition. In recent years, it has become one of the lead schools in Yokohama through its pioneering efforts in education and also for its unique operational approach that involves the setting of mid-term management plans for the school. Honcho Elementary School has earned the status as "pioneering school" from Yokohama city for its proposal-based reforms.

Approximately 140 students from the fourth and fifth grades participated in the environmental class. The program featured lectures on general environmental issues and explanations on the mechanism of Nissan's latest fuel cell vehicle. It also offered students a chance to take a ride in the Nissan fuel cell vehicle. Nissan plans for this class to be the first in a series of environmental classes at the school throughout FY2007.
