The 14th NISSAN Joyful Storybook and Picture Book Exhibition (March 25, 2006 - Apr 05)
Adults and Children Alike Experience the "World of the Picture Book" -14th Nissan Joyful Storybook and Picture Book Exhibition-

Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. held the 14th Nissan Joyful Storybook and Picture Book Exhibition at the Atrium Gallery of the National Children's Castle for a 12-day period from Saturday, March 25 through Wednesday, April 5, 2006.

The theme for this year's exhibition was Michi Michite (Many Winding Trails). This is the motif from Shiroi Michi, the winner of the Grand Prize in the Picture Book Category of the 21st Nissan Children's Storybook and Picture Book Grand Prix. The exhibition included pieces created by children's book author Takako Aoki, and also featured a workshop corner where children were able to create their own mini works of art. The exhibition also displayed original drawings of the prize winners from the Picture Book Category of the 21st Nissan Children's Storybook and Picture Book Grand Prix, together with picture books and stories of prize winners from the international Hans Christian Andersen Award, for which Nissan is the main sponsor. In this way, Nissan created an exhibition space which provided visitors with the opportunity to truly experience the world of the picture book.

The exhibition was held during the spring school vacation and many parents brought their children along. In the workshop corner visitors could be seen to be working eagerly on their own creations, with children engrossed in their task, and adults no doubt reliving their own childhood memories as they experienced the picture book world created by Ms. Aoki.

Announcement (Create a link to the interviews by each of the people listed in blue below) The following pages contain interviews with three key persons in the exhibition: children's book author Takako Aoki, the overall coordinator for this event at the National Children's Castle Rika Dohi, and from the Nissan Design Center, which provided the materials for the exhibits, Youichi Shidara.

What is the Nissan Joyful Storybook and Picture Book Exhibition?
This event has been jointly planned and hosted by Nissan and the National Children's Castle since 1992, and is part of Nissan's support for education-a priority area for CSR activities. The exhibits are themed on the prize winning picture books in the Nissan Children's Storybook and Picture Book Grand Prix, which is another facet of Nissan's CSR activities. One of the unique characteristics of the event is that the exhibits are created from discarded car interior fabric samples and other materials, which were in the past treated as waste. In addition, many Nissan personnel volunteer to be directly involved in the running of the exhibition. This year the exhibition benefited from the additional volunteer services of students and graduates who are registered with the Waseda University Volunteer Center (WAVOC).
