Born in Saitama, Japan in 1967. Lives and works in New York. BFA in oil painting from Musashino Art University, Tokyo (1990). In 1999, Ambe started working on her project "Linear-Actions Project Cutting / Drawing." By cutting each piece and stacking thousands of paper sheets, she creates original topography seeking to embody the synchronicity between humans and nature. Her past exhibitions include solo shows at Warehouse Gallery (Syracuse University, New York), The FLAG Art Foundation (New York), SCAI THE BATHHOUSE (Tokyo), Lora Reynolds Gallery, (Austin, Texas), and group shows at Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (Arizona), Museum Brandhorst (Munich), Manchester Art Gallery (Manchester), the Berarudo Collection Museum (Lisbon). In 2010, she was nominated for AICA-USA Exhibition Award. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, New York and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
