Started in July 2007, "Nissan Monozukuri Caravan" is a Nissan's unique corporate citizenship activity. As a way for Nissan to share its passion in manufacturing to elementary school children, the company has given several lectures and activities to fifth graders in Kanagawa, Tochigi, and Fukuoka Prefecture.
This program consists of two sessions. In the first part, the children can experience how they use their brains to seek for more effective ways in manufacturing using assembly blocks. Each group of eight people are tasked to assemble two units of "Nissan Friend". In the manufacturing process, the children will notice that a little Kaizen (improvement) and creativity can lead to considerable efficiency improvement. In the second part, the children can experience the real manufacturing process by touching the tools and protective equipments which are actually used at the plant.
This program aims for the children to experience "noticing" and "improving (Kaizen)" at the same time enjoy making things.

"Simulated Assembly Production Using Assembly Blocks"
A team of eight children assembles two units of "Nissan Friend", which are specially designed for this program. Each child will assign a specific task within a team. Working on the assembly line as a team based on the manual, they will try to assemble the product. In the second try, "Kaizen" developed by each team is implemented as they try to learn from each other as a team to improve their assembly of the product. Aside from learning about manufacturing, the program helps stimulate the children and build camaraderie together with their classmates.
<Session 2> (30 min.)
"Manufacturing Experience"
The children get a hands on experience on manufacturing by handling a real impact wrench (electric power tool) in tightening bolts and a sheet-metal hammer. They will also be able to experience parts of car manufacturing by placing pins and bolts onto a demonstration board.
