The stories we were read at bedtime as children never leave us in our adulthood. At Nissan, we believe in the value of children being exposed to high-quality books to enrich their imagination. Great books teach us about new concept and values and open up a whole new world to be discovered. Reading makes one curious about the world around us, and encourage us to become more creative and thoughtful. Under its corporate citizenship initiatives, Nissan is committed to education. Since 1984, Nissan has organized the Nissan Children's Storybook and Picture Book Grand Prix, a contest to promote creative storybooks and picture books from amateur authors. On an annual basis, the Grand Prix provides promising authors the opportunity to showcase their talents and creative works with the public. To reach a wider children's audience, the Grand Prize-winning works are published and distributed through the Nissan sales channels to libraries across Japan, as well as kindergartens and nursery schools near Nissan facilities. The objective of the Nissan Joyful Storybook and Picture Book Exhibition is to introduce enjoyable works to a larger audience and allow children to experience the joy of creation. Since 1992, at every spring vacation, Nissan has organized exhibitions and workshops in cooperation with the National Children's Castle based on the picture books' themes. At these workshops, the children enjoy the creative process under the supervision of employees and student volunteers. Recyled materials from cars and other vehicle components are used for the exhibition and workshop. Nissan employees from manufacturing are also involved in the setting up the event. By leveraging its strength and expertise as an automaker, the exhibition and workshop becomes uniquely Nissan. |
